Lois Gore

Since early childhood, Lois Gore’s magnificent obsession with the intricacies and perfection of handmade jewelry has inspired her to follow a lifelong career journey intertwined with fine art sculpture, wearable art, geology, and teaching. Her path has crossed with others whose shining wisdom and generosity have given Lois knowledge and skill she now gladly shares in her workshops.

For the last twenty-three years, after twenty-five years of designing, patternmaking, and developing a line of luxury leather accessories, Lois’s focus has shifted to exclusively concentrate on the ancient processes used to bring gold from its pure state into finished hand-crafted 22-karat gold jewelry.

Lois’s entry into NYC’s Fashion Institute of Technology studio jewelry program led her to the Jewelry Arts Institute in New York City. Under the tutelage of the late master goldsmith Louise Parrish, Lois followed the ancient jewelry-making techniques of the Byzantine Empire. Her work continues as a modern interpretation of that ancient art and discipline. Additionally, a Gemological Institute of America Graduate Gemologist certification (GIA GG) has broadened her depth and understanding of fine gemstones.

Lois's studio is on Long Island, New York’s fabled East End. The location has been the workplace and home for countless world-renowned artists and craftspeople. The thriving art community and the breathtaking natural beauty are a source of connection and inspiration.

What quote might best summarize Lois’s appreciation of her love for goldsmithing? Perhaps the following:

“Gold is of exotic cosmic origin. Astronomers believe gold is formed in rare neutron-star collisions. Hold 22-karat gold in your hand and feel the energy. Making jewelry with this precious metal is like weaving stardust. ”
